Billionaire investor Alex Waislitz has popped the question to his partner of three years, Rebekah Behbahani.
The happy couple shared their news at an intimate celebration with close family and friends in the private East Tower Suite overlooking Melbourne’s CBD at Sofitel Melbourne On Collins on Friday night.
The gathering included Behbahani’s glamorous sister, Real Housewives of Melbourne star and child protection lawyer, Venus Behbahani-Clark and her husband James, celebrity psychic Harry T, businessman Antony Catalano, Mesoblast’s Dr Silviu Itescu, and jeweller Marcus Rose.
Waislitz proposed with a 5.5 carat diamond ring from Charles Rose jewellers and the couple are set to call one of the extraordinary penthouses at the new Saint Moritz development in St Kilda home once construction is finished on the luxury abode.
It was actually at the Saint Moritz site that Waislitz surprised Behbahani with the exquisite ring before adjourning to Sofitel for the celebration dinner.
Waislitz, the founder and Chairman of the Thorney Investment Group and a Collingwood Football Club board member, and Behbahani, a former KPMG business adviser, have been dating since meeting at a soiree hosted by mutual friends in 2017.
The engagement comes just shy of their daughter Storm’s first birthday on December 9.
Waislitz has three children from his former marriage to philanthropist, Heloise Pratt.
Waislitz and Behbahani are planning a larger - post COVID-19 restrictions - engagement celebration in the new year and their wedding is planned for 2022 at a date to be set.
“Bec is a very special person. She’s intelligent, kind, warm-hearted and beautiful. I’m very happy and excited for our future together,” Waislitz said of his stunning fiance.
A thrilled Behbahani said: “The best is still to come.”
