TV host Abbie Chatfield has revealed that she may not have children with her musician boyfriend Adam Hyde over concerns about climate change.
The media personality, who debuted her romance with the Peking Duk frontman earlier this year, shared the personal update with her 490K TikTok followers after one fan praised the couple’s loved-up displays, which Chatfield regularly shares online.
“You two would be the coolest parents ever,” follower Sarah Nicole wrote in response to a short clip which the star shared of her muso beau as he modelled a variety of sunglasses.
But Chatfield - who’s cultivated a legion of fans with her outspokenness on podcast ‘It’s a Lot’ - was quick to manage any outside expectations, replying: “Very sad climate change means probably not going to happen”.
It comes at the same time the FBoy Island host shared a collection of loving images to Instagram in which Hyde appeared to caress The Bachelor alumni’s belly, prompting speculation that the popular couple were expecting.
But it would seem 29-year-old Chatfield’s not alone in questioning her choices around impending parenthood as Australia’s birthrate continues to fall to a record low.
Recent figures from the Bureau of Statistics showed that only 286,998 births were registered nationwide last year, resulting in a total fertility rate of 1.50 babies per woman.
But experts say the “replacement level” needs to be 2.1 babies per woman for society to sustain its population.
In 2021, a survey by The Lancet revealed just over 43 per cent of its 10,000 respondents in Australia were hesitant to have children due to climate change.
