The Block has hit a bum note with contestants Dylan Adams and Jenny Heath failing to earn a dollar from their time on the show after the house they renovated sold for $180,000 less than its reserve price.
The home at 225 McGeorge Road, Gisborne changed hands in February for $3.9m.
Known as House 4 on the show, it went to auction in November with a reserve of $4.08m, and was passed in for $4,075,000.
The five bedroom, three bathroom house, which features a fire pit, heated pool and wood-fired hot tub, eventually found a buyer in February, selling for well under the reserve.
While the sale means all five homes that were renovated by contestants on last year’s series of The Block, which was ambitiously set in Gisborne South, have finally been sold, Adams and Heath have emerged from the experience with nothing to show for their slog.
Contestants get to keep the money their house sells for above the reserve price.
While sure to be disappointed with the result, the couple has not been moping around.
They are getting on with their life and celebrated their wedding in Queensland in March.
Last season was one of highs and lows on The Block.
Mates Omar Slaimankhel and Osman “Oz” Said walked away with $1,686,666.66 after their house, known as House 5, sold for $5,666,666.66, a hefty $1,586,666.66 over the home’s reserve of $4.08 million. The boys added another $100,000 to their prize pool as the winning team of the season.
Viewer favourites Tom Calleja and Sarah-Jane Wilson pocketed just $20,000.99 after their home, known as House 1, sold for $4,100,000.99.
The reserve was $4.08m.
The new season of The Block is well underway at Charming Street in Hampton East.
