Don Scott recovering after undergoing treatment for blocked artery

Footy legend Don Scott has narrowly escaped medical crisis with the episode forcing him to miss the wake of dear friend Sam Newman’s wife, Amanda.

Footy legend Don Scott is recovering after suffering severe heart pains and undergoing urgent treatment for a blocked artery.

Scott, 73, was absent from the private wake his dear friend Sam Newman held in honour of his late wife Amanda on Thursday having been rushed to hospital on the Mornington Peninsula by fellow footy champion Bernie Quinlan.

Scott had a stent inserted into his chest on Friday.

“I was working with Bernie and Tony Jewel on Thursday and I complained that I had a bit of a heart pain and it made no impression at all on Bernie,” Scott said.

“So we kept working and then I said, ‘I think I need to go to hospital, can you give us a lift?’”

While Scott was typically nonchalant about his health scare, it was serious with close friends initially fearing he had suffered a heart attack.

“One of my arteries had blocked so the blood flow was not getting to the heart and I had sharp pains. You are on the verge of a heart attack if you don’t do something,” he said.

“I was show jumping a few weeks ago and I came out of the ring and I was blowing and then last Sunday I was blowing again, similar to what I had a couple of years ago and nearly died, but I had never had the pain in the heart before.

“I knew I needed help.”

A chirpy Scott was looking forward to being released from hospital yesterday.

“I feel great. I reckon I could get on a horse right now,” the expert horseman said.

“It is like any plumbing or a blocked drain, as soon as you rectify it the blood starts flowing again and you are right.”

Scott assured fans of the You Cannot Be Serious podcast that he hosts with Newman that despite his health scare the show would go on.

“I will be there on Wednesday, don’t worry about that.”
