Danielle Hardwick, the ex-wife of Richmond coach Damien Hardwick, is on a mission to be a mentor after stepping out to support an Indigenous scholarships program.

“It was definitely inspiring,” Danielle Hardwick told organisers of the event. “I am passionate about reconciliation ... and I admire people that act on, rather than talk, about how they can support the Indigenous community.”

The program, by Melbourne security company, Dominance, will provide scholarship opportunities for 20 Indigenous Australians over the next 12 months as part of its reconciliation action plan.

Danielle Hardwick attended the program launch at Federation Square alongside high profile supporters including AFL legends Nicky Winmar, Dean Rioli, AFLW star Kaitlin Ashmore, North Melbourne player Jy Simpkin, artist Kiewa Austin Rioli, and other sporting, corporate and community heavyweights.

Dominance CEO Nick Karas said: “Statistically, only one in two Indigenous people in Victoria is gainfully employed. It is important we assist more Indigenous Australian men and women overcome the systemic and financial barriers to employment.”

Damien Hardwick and Danielle separated in 2020. They have three children.

He is now in a relationship with Alexandra Crow, a member of the Tigers’ commercial sales team.

Often referred to by the Tigers coach as “Mrs Hardwick” in press conferences, Danielle had been by her husband’s side through an incredibly successful football career, including flags as a player with Essendon and Port Adelaide, and as Tigers coach.

Mr Karas said Dominance will work with the Kinaway Chamber of Commerce (Victorian Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce) “to ensure that we can deliver the cultural safe employment opportunities for all Indigenous people.”

He added: “I am calling all business to do more and create similar opportunities within their organisations for Indigenous people .Together we can create change and reconciliation for all.”
