What Pearl Jam fans can expect from the rock gods’ Melbourne show

It’s been a decade since they played down under but grunge rock favourites Pearl Jam are set to take Marvel Stadium by storm on Saturday night — and they won’t hold back on their classic hits.

Pearl Jam loves the Gold Coast Suns

Grunge rock favourites Pearl Jam are bringing their electric Dark Matter World Tour to Marvel Stadium on Saturday night.

The Seattle legends, led by evergreen frontman Eddie Vedder, have just played in New Zealand and the Gold Coast.

Each setlist varies but expect the classics — Better Man, Daughter, Even Flow and Alive — and some from the new 12th album Dark Matter.

It’s been a decade since Pearl Jam performed in Australia when it headlined the final Big Day Out festival in 2014.

In Auckland Vedder brought Neil Finn on stage to perform the Hunters & Collectors classic Throw Your Arms Around Me; during another Auckland performance on November 8 they brought Neil’s son Liam Finn on to perform Habit.

On the Gold Coast Vedder paid tribute to two of Australia’s world surfing champions — Mick Fanning and Mark Richards — who were both in attendance, thanking “the Aussie surf gods for giving us no f..king surf at all. We saved all our energy for this moment right here with you tonight. If the gods can hear this and they wanna give us some waves tomorrow, we won’t stay dry. I dedicate this to all the surfers. Every surfer believes in equal rights — and equal lefts!”

The show was delayed due to storms but Marvel Stadium is expected to be hot in temperature and performance.

Showing his interest in AFL, Vedder also gave the Gold Coast Suns a shoutout.

“We like the underdogs. We like the Gold Coast Suns!” Vedder shouted.

That affinity might be due to his friendship with Lions great Jonathan Brown who spent time abroad with Vedder last year.

The pair share a passion for the EB charity, Epidermolysis Bullosa, and shared a few beers with Brown hinting at the time that Pearl Jam would tour “next year”. And here they are.

They will also perform at Marvel Stadium on Monday night.
