FOX Footy broadcaster Garry Lyon says he hopes the post COVID-19 social climate includes more gratitude and less angst.
Lyon, a former Demons champion, told Confidential: “I think we need to appreciate what we’ve got appreciate where we are in the world, the incredible town we live in, and the opportunities we’ve all been presented with.
“I hope, after (coronavirus is eradicated), there is less angst and less blueing with each other, and we all try to get on. It’s a very idealistic way to look at it all, but we’re lucky with what we’ve got.
“For me, I’m 52,” Lyon said, “and you’ve only got so many years left in the workforce. It’s time to enjoy the moment.”
Meanwhile, Lyon applauded innovations on Fox Footy, including virtual crowd noise, for the rebooted AFL season, while Victorian stadiums remain in lockdown, and others states play to heavily reduced numbers.
Lyon said: “Everyone sat back and held their breath to see if (the virtual crowd noise) was too artificial, or too fake, but the way they intergrate it is magnificent.”
He said round one, played in total silence, was too strange.
“It was an assault in the senses because there was no assault on the senses,” he said.
“You normally go the footy for the game, the sound, and noise, and drama. To have some atmosphere is paramount.”
