AFL legend Wayne Carey is tipped to be part of the next series of brutal military style show SAS Australia.

The new series is about to start filming with other big names expected to push themselves to the limit.

Carey, widely regarded as one of the game’s best ever players, is a footy commentator for Channel 7 and Triple M and also has a strong backstory.

Along with its intense tasks and conditions, the show is renowned for its tough interrogations with the DS (directing staff), and for tales of redemption.

Sam Burgess, Mark Philippoussis and Heath Shaw have been put to the ultimate test, while singer Bonnie Anderson told the Herald Sun she felt numb after the life-changing experience.

North Melbourne legend Carey, nicknamed “Duck”, is no stranger to headlines with a past that includes having an affair with his teammate Anthony Stevens’ wife, which exploded in 2002 and forced him to change clubs.

The 50-year-old father of three has also had police incidents in Australia and in the US.

Other names rumoured to be joining Carey are sporting stars Willie Mason, Sonny Bill Williams, former Bachelor Locky Gilbert, Olympian Ian Thorpe and controversial chef Pete Evans.

Former Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke pulled out after suffering an injury.

“I did sign up to do it,’’ Clarke said on his radio program. “Unfortunately I slipped a disc in my back doing the training.

“You get a four-week program where you got to do some stuff in preparation for the show and unfortunately I did my back.

“I let the guys know a couple of weeks ago that I’d done my disc and then it’s just been physio every day.”

It was reported that Clarke was to receive a $750,000 pay cheque.

The new series is likely to air next year.
