Kahlia Howe, wife of Collingwood star Jeremy Howe, has opened up for the first time about suffering a miscarriage last year.

Howe welcomed the couple’s first son Zander three years ago and their second son Saxon 10 weeks ago, but in between dealt with the loss of a baby at 11 weeks.

“So many people go through miscarriages, and struggles with conceiving, it’s sad people don’t feel confident or comfortable talking about it,’’ Kahlia told the Herald Sun.

“It made me feel sad thinking of people who have gone through it without anyone knowing.

“I kind of blamed myself for losing the baby which is really awful because it wasn’t my fault. I look back and I know it wasn’t meant to be.

“I thought, I have Zander and he’s very happy and healthy so I didn’t allow myself to grieve or feel sad about losing a baby.”

Howe fell pregnant with Saxon three months after her miscarriage and felt anxious at times but mainly relieved when he was born.

She felt something was off and went to see the obstetrician.

“I found out the day before Round Zero and luckily Jeremy was injured,’’ Kahlia said.

“He didn’t come to the obstetrician and was at the footy club and I was trying to have a really positive attitude that everything will be fine.

“I ended up in emergency the next day with the miscarriage experience and was lucky he could be there too.

“There’s a one in three chance of it happening I think, and I want to give other people some light to not feel so ashamed. Everyone deals with grief in their own way but people should feel supported.

“People rarely post the bad stuff, it’s always happy news, and if you’ve lost a baby or are trying to fall pregnant it can be hard. We have two healthy boys and we’re really lucky.”
