Triple premiership hero Jonathan Brown says there is no asterisk on this year’s premiership

There has been talk that this year’s COVID-19 affected season is tainted, but former Lions hero Jonathan Brown says there is no asterisk on the 2020 premiership. He also gives his finals predictions ahead of the launch of a new Fox Footy show.

Jonathan Brown says there is no asterisk on this year’s AFL premiership.

The AFL legend and three-time premiership Lion said it will be a legitimate and deserved win for the team that prevails on October 24.

“I’ve never subscribed to that theory, there’s no asterisks,’’ Brown said.

“We don’t look back … all the premiers are there.

“It’s an even better effort, especially if one of the hub teams wins it. Brisbane and Port have got a big advantage having been largely at home, so if one of the teams outside of those wins it’s an enormous effort.”

Brown is joining Fox Footy colleagues Nick Riewoldt and Garry Lyon in hosting a new finals show, Fox Footy’s Ultimate Preview.

It will air for an hour each Thursday through until the grand final.

“It’ll be good, looking forward to it, especially now the games are all exciting,’’ Brown said.

“There’s a big expectation so you can’t preview the games enough.

“Certainly this year, like everyone, I’ve never watched so much footy in all my life because we’ve just had the time on our hands.

“The work has kept me going. We would have been stuffed without the footy.”

David King and Leigh Montagna will also be involved in the preview show.

Brown says the Lions can “absolutely” win the flag, but isn’t writing off Richmond.

“Port and Brisbane have got a big advantage with the week off and staying in their homes,’’ he said.

“You can never write off great teams and Richmond have been a great team.

“It’s difficult to get your head around a good side losing two games in two weeks when they’ve been so dominant for the best part of four years now.”

Fox Footy’s ultimate preview airs 7.30pm Thursdays.
