Lauren Phillips has suffered a freak injury after attending a Barbie party at the weekend.
The radio host dressed up as hip-hop Barbie for the birthday party of Jessie Roberts who was joined at home by friends including Bec Judd, Lana Wilkinson, Nadia Bartel and Effie Kats.
Phillips was a no-show for KIIS FM Monday morning after being left with a broken hand from a fall whi le racing to catch an Uber.
“Barbie is now trauma Barbie with four broken bones in her hand,’’ Phillips said after calling in to co-hosts Jase Hawkins and Clint Stanaway.
“One bone has been broken three times and he said it looks like I could’ve been run over by a car. Barbie went down hard.”
Phillips has her left arm in plaster and a sling and may require surgery.
“I went as Hip-Hop Barbie and the party was great,’’ she said.
“Everyone got right on into it, we had a ball, there were so many different Barbies. I was thrilled with my outfit because I wasn’t in a mini dress, I was in these cool pants so I could really hit the dancefloor.
“It was around midnight, and I said to (my fiance) Paul, ‘let’s smoke bomb and get out of here and go, let’s not say goodbye because I take about two hours to say goodbye to people.’
“So I tried to run out the door to the Uber in my Barbie platforms. Barbie took a bit of a tumble right in front of the Uber.
“And then we got in the car, and I was like that really hurt and Paul’s looking at my hand like ‘I think it’s fine, move your fingers … oh do you want to go to the hospital, it’s really blown up.’ And I’m like we are not going to the emergency dressed as Barbie and Ken. It’s going to be fine, think I’ve just sprained it.”
Phillips knew something wasn’t right on Sunday morning and went to the hospital.
“We went home, put some ice on it. Cut to Sunday morning, I wake up with my pink eyeshadow still on and a completely blue palm of my hand,’’ she said.
“I went to the hospital, straight into X-rays and a CT scan.
“It was like one of those videos that goes viral.
“It’s my left hand thankfully. I’m off to the surgeon today so looks like I’m going to have surgery to put it back together.
“I couldn’t get it (the engagement ring) off because my fingers swelled so much and I thought they were going to cut it off. But we managed to get it off. It’s safe and well.”
