Time On is your Monday wrap-up of all the footy gossip and banter from the weekend.

Wayne Carey has reunited with old mates during an event on Good Friday.

The footy great, who has rarely been seen publicly over the past six months, was in Bundalong for a sportman’s event along with his partner Catie O’Neill, Billy Brownless, Dane Swan, Ricky Nixon and his partner Melissa Huynh plus John Rombotis and his partner Jules Idush.

It was the same place Carey was first seen with O’Neill in January.

Brownless said it was nice to see his old Triple M radio colleague again and raise some funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

Carey stepped away from all media roles this year following a white powder incident in September at Perth casino.

“I caught up with an old mate and he said to say g’day,’’ Brownless said on Saturday.

“He still looks good. He had a white shirt that was two sizes too small, then he had the nice strides and all that, but he had a knitted jumper on and he hadn’t read the email for the dress (code) at this function at a tavern. Everyone there has got footy shorts on and hoodies and RM Williams, he looked like a school teacher. He looked like a principal.

“He said a couple of funny ones here and there. All the best to our good friend Ducky boy who is going well.”

Cameron saves the day

Footy journalist Damian Barrett has told the real story of what happened eight years ago when confronted by Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge.

When pressed by Triple M Friday Huddle colleague Mark Howard, he says he was saved from the physical altercation by GWS coach Leon Cameron.

“I do have flashbacks to Brownlow Medal night 2015 when a certain coach of a footy club decided to take issue with something I’d written the previous week,’’ Barrett said.

“We’ve told this story 1000 times. He took offence physically to what I said previous to that occasion. There was a shoulder charge, it was a shoulder charge from behind and it was going to get interesting.

“Leon Cameron saved me. Leon took Luke out of the equation.”

Tensions were reignited somewhat a few weeks ago when Barrett on the Sunday Footy Show brought up Beveridge’s new pearly white chompers, which Time On revealed days earlier.

Something to celebrate

Essendon’s 1993 Baby Bombers side had an early premiership reunion last week.

About 10 players were joined by coach Kevin Sheedy for a get together before the official celebration.

Rick Olarenshaw, visiting Melbourne from his home in Bali, posted a picture featuring the likes of Paul Salmon, Mark Harvey, Joe Misiti, Dustin Fletcher, Darren Bewick and Sean Denham.

“It was good, just a little hello before we start the real reunion,’’ Sheedy said.

Olarenshaw said: “30 year premiership reunion... a very funny evening. The big Fish (Salmon) still the focal point...”

Class acts

The post-game interviews so far in season 2023 have been top shelf.

Seven’s Dale Thomas handled the post-game chat beautifully with Bulldogs star Jamarra Ugle-Hagan after his emotion-charged performance last round, and Jude Bolton did the same with Port’s match winning forward Jeremy Finlayson on Saturday night.

Finlayson became emotional when asked about wife Kelly who is bravely battling cancer.

“I hope she’s watching, I love her so much,’’ Finlayson said.

“It’s a reward for sticking tough and doing it for Kel and (our daughter) Soph back home. And I’m just happy to be out here playing footy and doing what I love.”

Swanning around

Sydney Swans games keep attracting the big names.

Two weeks ago the Sydney Cricket Ground hosted a touch of Hollywood when Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney attended a match alongside her co-stars Dermot Mulroney and Aussie actress Rachel Griffiths, who are all filming a rom-com in Sydney.

She was spotted in the stands with a Swan scarf on and also went into the rooms after the game to meet all the players.

On Saturday night singer Jason Derulo, who is joining this season of The Voice, was in the crowd for the match against Port Adelaide with Felicity Harley, wife of Swans CEO Tom Harley.

Mind your head, Mason

The Gabba changerooms might need to fix their height limits.

Collingwood’s injured ruckman Mason Cox made his own way to Queensland to watch the team play Brisbane.

But he was taken aback when he saw the low head clearance of 2.05m in the rooms.

“I’m 2.12 metres,’’ he said. The next picture he posted was of only half his head with the ceiling blocking out the rest of him. He was staying on in Queensland with former ironman turned life coach Trevor Hendy.
