Time On is your Monday wrap-up of all the footy gossip from the weekend.

Brown in the chair

It’s official, Nathan Brown is replacing Tony Jones as host of the Sunday Footy Show for the next four weeks.

Jones heads off on Saturday to work at Wimbledon and despite feisty competition among the panel of Brown, Damian Barrett, Matthew Lloyd and Kane Cornes, it was always going to be Brown’s gig.

“We certainly will have a great time,’’ Brown said on Sunday’s show, after a humorous segment showed him getting a touch-up on his teeth to look like his “chompers” colleague Jones.

Jones isn’t too worried about leaving his seat.

“My only bit of advice to Nathan would be, don’t stuff it up,’’ he said.

“From my point of view you always feel a little bit apprehensive when you go away, but I subscribe to the theory that you never want someone coming in to do a better job than you so I think I’m safe.

“It’s a bit like his baby teeth, it’ll be baby steps. He also runs the risk of overexposure.

“Not sure who he’s modelling himself on, but you don’t want to stray out of your lane.”

Fev takes top dollar

The salaries for footy’s big fight night have been revealed by commentator Nathan Brown.

Brendan Fevola is taking on Cameron Mooney, Dane Swan is getting in the ring with Adam Cooney and Brent Harvey is going toe-to-toe with Stephen Milne. More names are expected to be announced for the All Stars Boxing – Footy Fight Night on August 3 at Margaret Court Arena.

Brown said Fevola is the big money drawcard with a $100,000 price tag.

“He’s big time now Fev,’’ Brown told Triple M’s Friday Huddle.

“He is a big name, not only in this town but around Australia. He’s a household name.”

Brown said Brownlow medallists Swan, will get $50,000, and Cooney will get $30,000 with $20,000 to come from an advertising deal on Cooney’s shorts.

“All due respect to Adam Cooney and they’re both Brownlow medallists, Swan is a bigger name,’’ Brown said, adding that Mooney will command somewhere between Swan and Cooney, “ … because he’s got the ability to beat Brendan.”

It’s believed Glen Jakovich has been approached, as has Campbell Brown who host Mark Howard believes will only agree to fight if it’s against Matthew Lloyd.

Howard also claimed Nathan Brown was offered $40,000 to be involved but said he would not fight for less than $80,000.

The boxing will air in a prime time, pay per view extravaganza on Foxtel’s Main Event and Kayo.

What’s the big deal on biffo?

Brian Taylor didn’t understand what all the fuss was about over the brawl between Melbourne teammates Steven May and Jake Melksham.

“You know that footy is a game of forced relationships, you are forced to like the guy next to you with a locker next to you, you are forced to like the other 39 people in the room,’’ Taylor said during his Roaming Brian segment.

“They don’t always get on all of the time and this is quite a common occurrence at all football clubs, not just elite level.”

Taylor admitted he had a punch-on with a Collingwood teammate — the late great Darren Millane.

Billy’s mystery date

Mystery surrounds the identity of Billy Brownless’ company after it was revealed he went on a double date with Leigh Montagna and his wife.

“We just bumped into each other at the pub,’’ a coy Montagna said on Triple M’s Sunday Rub.

“We met Chris and Liam Hemsworth’s mum at Sorrento Hotel. We were watching the footy and we just had dinner.”

Brownless’ date was also brought up on Saturday by his Triple M colleagues.

Wayne Carey offered some romance advice: “Just be yourself, if he’s putting on this facade it’s not him.”

Holmes’ overnight gig

Footy broadcaster Abbey Holmes is making her international event debut on the Commonwealth Games coverage, co-hosting overnights alongside Ryan Daniels.

“I’m pumped, I’m a lifelong sports lover,’’ Holmes said.

“To have the opportunity to host my first big international event is exciting.

“They’ve shown a lot of faith in me. The first discussions were a while ago and I work heavily in the footy space but my background is netball.”

Holmes will host the 11.30pm to 3am shift on Seven.

“I’ve never worked a night shift in my life and I’m normally in bed by 9.30pm but the adrenaline will be flowing, there’ll be so much happening,’’ she said.

“Hamish (McLachlan) is such an incredible mentor for me at 7AFL and he’s the first one to provide feedback. I also had lunch with Abbey Gelmi and she was giving me so many tips. I can’t wait.”

Australian Paralympians Annabelle (Annie) Williams and Curtis McGrath will lead the broadcast of the fully-integrated para program.

The Commonwealth Games begin in less than 50 days.
