An off the cuff gag from Tony Jones has turned into a back and forth with SEN breakfast hosts Garry Lyon and Tim Watson.

Time On is your Monday wrap-up of all the footy gossip from the weekend.
It’s been bubbling along for some time but there’s no doubt tension exists between Channel 9’s Tony Jones and Channel 7’s Tim Watson.
Last year Jones quipped ‘who is it?’ when shown a picture of the Essendon great, adding that he hears him on radio, but …
In reply Watson cheekily put forward the notion that Jones, known as “Chompers”, was also sporting hair plugs.
Last week the Sunday Footy Show aired old infamous footage of Watson forgetting the name of former Demons coach, Greg Hutchison, while throwing to an ad break.
Garry Lyon, Watson’s SEN colleague, brought it up on their radio show.
“What toupee Tony did? Did he play that did he?” Watson said.
Jones wasn’t impressed.
“The teeth might have had a bit of work but not the hair … if that’s a toupee then I want my money back.’’ he said.
“Garry Lyon has got to be the biggest (shit) stirrer going around at the moment. The tape that we played, which we’re not playing again by the way …”
And yes, you can guess what aired next.
Billy’s romantic getaway
Billy Brownless is taking the next step in his new relationship.
After we recently confirmed the blossoming romance it’s now been revealed Brownless was set up by Erinn Montagna, the wife of Leigh Montagna, and they are going on a joint holiday to Fiji in October.
“What Billy doesn’t know yet is Erinn and I want to have a few romantic night outs together so Billy is going to babysit my kids,’’ Montagna said.
“Erinn played matchmaker (they work together).”
Father of four Brownless described the new connection as “a nice little friendship”.
“There’s a better word for friend because there’s been a bit of feedback,’’ he said.
His Saturday Rub colleagues on Triple M suggested girlfriend or partner would be more suitable.
Sadly for Geelong great Brownless, it dawned on him that the trip may force him to be a late scratching from a big race day.
“I think we miss the Caulfield Cup,’’ he said. “It’ll be like we’re one big happy family.”
Show Mitch the money
Channel 7 sports news man Mitch Cleary has ventured into landmark territory.
It was noted by Craig Hutchison on his podcast, The Sounding Board, that Cleary may have scooped up a sponsor for when he does doorstops.
Cleary’s attempt to approach Dustin Martin went viral after the Richmond superstar gave him the cold shoulder and ignored his advance.
We hear the story goes that he was spotted wearing a North Face jacket and was subsequently approached by Kathmandu to wear a piece of their clothing while out on the job in future.
Kane down on Bombers’ trip
Kane Cornes took aim at the Essendon playing group after footage emerged of them gathered at Melbourne Airport setting off an end of season footy trip.
On Sunday he said it was a risk and warned that “you would not want to stuff up on this trip”.
“The only successful thing the Essendon players have planned this year is a footy trip,” he said on the Sunday Footy Show.
“I was really surprised to see a large scale footy trip – I thought (they) were extinct about 10 years ago.
“Clubs really dislike and advise their players not to do trips like this because the risk you are to get yourself into trouble. There’s the 30 odd players heading across to Ibiza I think.
“I would have thought a better use of Essendon players’ time would be to be at Marvel yesterday for Essendon’s historic AFLW performance, or to be at the MCG next week to see Collingwood and Geelong — two big clubs — going at it in a final that Essendon hasn’t been exposed to.”
Fellow Sunday Footy Show panellist Nathan Brown shared a different view.
“Geez, you are a wet blanket,” he said.
“They’ve had a hard year, they deserve to be able to go away and clear their minds.
“You can’t tell an adult male what they can and can’t do, where they can and can’t go.
“They need to be able to go away, enjoy each other’s company away from the highlight of football and AFL media in Melbourne.”
Fresh start for McClure
Sam McClure will debut on air as host of 3AW’s Wide World of Sports radio program on November 2.
The former Age journalist will be joined by a rotating roster of footy and sport commentators.
Now on holiday in Europe, McClure said: “I grew up with 3AW being the only station my family would listen to. When I first started working there I was a teenager buying coffees for hosts at outside broadcasts. To be back, in my 30s, hosting Wide World of Sports is very special.”
