Time On is your Monday wrap-up of all the footy gossip and banter from the weekend.

Craig Hutchison has leapt to the defence of Matthew Lloyd and called for Haileybury College to get “its head out of its backside”.

Coach Lloyd was stood down briefly and apologised after attending a boozy bash with underage students celebrating their milestone footy win.

“Of all the people to be involved in a booze scandal, someone that doesn’t drink,’’ Hutchison said on his SEN show, Off the Bench.

“I’ve followed Matthew’s journey with Haileybury … he is the most outstanding leader of people, of young men, what he’s done with that group to instil leadership, confidence, sense of worth and for them to overcome the odds and to win. Amazing win.

“If parents in 2023 after their kids win a grand final, can’t have a small gathering at a house that a couple of kids may or may not be at under parents’ supervision, he’s called in for 90 minutes to say hello and acknowledge the win and the school have put out a press release.

“Give me a spell. Fair dinkum. What world are we living in.”

Lloyd led the prestigious school’s first football boys’ team to take out top honours in the 2023 Associated Public School season, securing the premiership against Caulfield Grammar.

He is one of six staff — including two academic staff — who faced disciplinary action over their attendance at the alcohol-fuelled party.

Hutchison labelled the fallout as “over officious”.

“Parents are entitled to supervise their kids as they see fit,’’ he said.

“And if Matthew was invited to pop past and say hello … he doesn’t even drink. That is a joke. That school needs to get its head out of its backside. What are they doing, honestly. That’s over officious, could have been dealt with privately. Didn’t need to be grand statements. A little bit of common sense.”

Hutchy’s content clash

Hutchison was in form, also teeing off about other media personalities “nicking our content”.

The media mogul called out Nathan Brown as a content thief, saying ideas for segments have been stolen from his program, Off the Bench, which he co-hosts with Liam Pickering on SEN.

He claimed Brown’s Media-Ocre segment on the Sunday Footy Show, as well as their popular What Caught My Eye segment, were both lifted off his show.

“We are 17 years into this schtick, Saturday mornings, we do play the same songs off the album a fair bit to be fair, and we did pinch some content when we got started 17 years ago to be fair,’’ Hutchison said.

“I think we’ve done a reasonable job of building walls around the show since then and I go away for two minutes and everyone’s nicking our content.”

Pickering added: “What caught my eye should be what caught my ear. And the answer is (our segment) Off The Record. And Media-Ocre is a direct steal from here as well.”

Hutchison said Brown’s version was a “poorer version” and claimed Brown even stole a segment which he aired on Friday night during Triple M’s Friday Huddle.

Hutchison and Pickering quizzed Brown about it on air when he came on their program for Sportsbet.

“I’m taking an idea and just doing it a little bit better. That’s OK,’’ Brown said.

Hutchison was half tongue-in-cheek and half serious but wouldn’t let it go: “Not an original thought in that man’s body. He’s a content thief.”

Carey gets upstaged

Little Carter Carey seems to be a fan of the stage like his dad, footy great Wayne Carey.

Carter was captured looking comfortable with all eyes on him and microphone in hand during his dad’s sportsman’s night in West Gambier.

Ricky Nixon posted a picture of the pair with the caption: “Now this was hilarious when the Duck got upstaged by Carter his son who marched on stage at West Gambier Football & Netball Club demanded the mic and took over like his old man on Fri N at the MCG back in the day.”

Carey seemed impressed by his youngest child’s efforts. He was also noticeably sporting a sling after undergoing a shoulder reconstruction.

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder appears to have given footy greats Jonathan Brown and Rory Sloane a major tour scoop.

Vedder told Fox Footy host Brown and Adelaide Crows star Sloane that he “hopes to tour next year after cancelling through Covid.

Brown told Time On: “It might be easier to get tickets to that than Taylor Swift.”

The interview aired on Fox Footy on Sunday.

Pearl Jam, with hits including Alive, Even Flow and Not For You, is touring the US this year.

Brown and Sloane support a charity, founded by Vedder and his wife, to help find a cure for Epidermolysis Bullosa, or EB as it is most commonly known.

Brown flew to Adelaide on Saturday for the Crows’ match against Gold Coast which was used to raise awareness and money for the life-threatening and rare skin disease affecting children from birth.

Brian Taylor has joined the world of podcasting.

The Seven and Triple M commentator said he wanted a platform to share his thoughts and has created Life of Brian, alongside his son Harrison, to be released each Monday.

“The reason I’ve been holding back on doing a podcast is because all of the platforms I’m currently on … I’m a commentator, I call the footy, that’s what I do,’’ BT said.

“It’s not a platform for all of my ideas on footy or my views on footy. This is a show where I get to actually tell you about my opinions on certain things.”
