Time On: Kangaroos win won’t sway Sonja Hood to return to X

The Kangaroos might be on the winner’s list for the first time in 2024, but the good vibes won’t be enough to convince Sonja Hood to rejoin X.

Time On is your wrap-up of all the footy media gossip and banter

North Melbourne president Dr Sonja Hood has ruled out a return to social media in the wake of the club scoring its first win of the season.

“No return to X, my life is much more peaceful without it,’’ Hood said.

North fans were jubilant after the win over the Eagles.

In April, Hood deleted her X account after copping a torrents of abuse from moronic footy fans.

Hood, who regularly took to X to interact with Kangaroo fans, said the abuse had been “revolting”.

“For the record, the thing that pushed me over the metaphorical Twitter edge was the gendered and misogynistic abuse,’’ Hood told the Herald Sun at the time.

“It was personal and revolting. We can’t pretend it doesn’t happen, I don’t reckon we need to be tough about it either, it’s just horrible.”

Crisp keeps on keeping on

Jack Crisp has given an insight into his longevity with Jim Stynes’ consecutive games record in his sights.

Crisp, who remarkably played his 226th consecutive game in a best on ground performance on Monday, paid tribute to his family.

“I always give a credit to mum and dad with good genes of course,’’ Crisp told Triple M’s Monday Rub.

“My wife (Mikayla) is pretty good at letting me switch off at home, letting me get a decent night’s sleep away from the kids.

“I put a lot of work into my body outside of the club, some ice baths and a lot of recovery stuff and a lot of hands on treatment with osteos and physios.”

Crisp said he’d be lying if he said he hasn’t looked at Stynes’ 244 game streak.

“Everyone seems to be heavily invested,’’ he said.

“It would be early next year depending if we made finals.”

Daics the builder

Collingwood legend Peter Daicos has been busy with a new labour of love.

Daicos is helping his sons, Magpies stars Josh and Nick, with renovations on their new homes.

It keeps him occupied while he’s not cheering on the boys, says wife Colleen.

The couple were in the Smile Solutions box at the MCG on King’s Birthday Monday, along with Nova breakfast hosts Lauren Phillips and Clint Stanaway, Marc and Jessie Murphy, Jo Hall and Sarah Czarnuch.

Peter has gained more weight since his stint on I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!.

“People think it’s edited but what you see is how it is,’’ Daicos said.

“I caught up with Khanh (Ong) the other day, but a lot of others are in Sydney. It was a great experience.”

Reporter’s warning after X account hacked

Tom Morris has warned people to be vigilant after becoming a victim of hacking on social media.

Nine’s intrepid chief footy reporter pleaded for help on Monday after his X account was hacked.

He also had his mobile phone published, along with some silly and illegible posts.

“My Twitter has been hacked,” Morris posted on his Instagram story.

Anything posted today is not me.

“If anyone has a direct line to Twitter HQ, please DM me.”

He has since recovered his account and reported the matter to Victoria Police.

“My X account was hacked overnight … please be cautious of any activity sent or communicated this morning. The tweets were not sent from me. The matter is now with Victoria Police and other relevant authorities.”

It comes after a fake Tom Browne account caught out Sam Newman last week.

Channel 7’s chief footy reporter hung up his mic last year but somehow the account lives on.

Browne told us: “I’m enjoying life with my family in Sydney, X is the furtherest thing from my mind but it is a real misrepresentation. I don’t reckon I’d have much luck contacting Elon (Musk).”

Finger lickin’ good honours for Tony Jones

Tony Jones was given a special honour to commemorate a one-year milestone.

The Sunday Footy Show host was caught on film tucking into a box of KFC in a food court booth at Crown.

In a humorous segment Nathan Brown crossed live to the unveiling of a plaque to mark the occasion 12 months on.

“It’s a special anniversary … it’s right here he sat in this booth and devoured a family meal pack, a couple of zingers, a can of coke and everything else on the menu. Only the best get immortalised in bronze.”

Even Jones couldn’t contain his laughter.

‘He’s dead to me, Cotchin’

There was a sight that made Richmond great Matthew Richardson squirm on Friday night.

The Channel 7 commentator did not like what he was seeing as cameras panned to Cotchin standing on the Brisbane bench in full Lions gear.

“How much does this hurt your soul, Matty Richardson?” Abbey Holmes asked.

Richo was shocked by what he saw of the former Tigers skipper.

“That is not Trent Cotchin … what is going on? Everyone is leaving the Tigers, fair dinkum. That’s it, he’s dead to me, Cotchin. I’ll never speak to him again.”

Cotchin joined the Lions this season in a leadership role that sees him working closely with the club’s captains.

Olarenshaw’s nasty gash

Former footballer Rick Olarenshaw had to overcome a nasty gash to star for the Bali Geckos in winning the Bali Masters.

Olarenshaw was stitched up before the 45s played and won.

There were a few familiar faces running around in the heat, including Richard Champion, Craig Lambert, Troy Luff and Jordan Doering.

The team went back to back and celebrated well.

Comben’s all hands

All hands were clapping and fist pumping when North Melbourne won its first match of the season.

Charlie Comben celebrated hard like all of his teammates and he somehow appeared to have a third hand when the club’s graphics department edited him hugging Aidan Corr.

It was amusing to followers of the club’s handle on social media platform X, with many wondering if Comben’s new superpower of having an extra hand had been the key to success.

The player subbed out of the picture turned out to be Toby Pink.

Holmes gets a sprinkle

The MCG sprinklers had a sense of theatre on Sunday night.

Despite rain during the day, the waterworks began right on cue as Channel 7’s Abbey Holmes was doing a post-match interview. One also got in the way of Charlie Curnow as he was celebrating on the fence with fans.

It reminded us of the infamous time in 1979 when the automatic sprinklers came on during a game at Waverley Park.

Daisy strips for Saints fan

Dale Thomas pulled off a remarkable gesture at Marvel Stadium to assist a Saints supporter in his bid to enter the Medallion Club.

On his way to the Triple M commentary box on Saturday night, Thomas was in the lift and heard the fan had been refused entry for not complying with the dress code to enter on level 2.

He instantly knew what had to be done and offered to give the man his jeans so he could get in and watch the game. His quick thinking and generosity meant he worked the whole match wearing Saints supporter tracky dacks.

“I think he wanted his pants back more than I cared about the jeans,’’ Thomas said.

Thomas’ wife Natasha was not too impressed, leaving a pair of pants at the front door for him change into when he got home.

Windhager scores a win for dad

St Kilda star Marcus Windhager had some ammunition when he got home after the win over Gold Coast on Saturday night.

Named best player by the Channel 7 commentary team, he won a new television, which he said would go a long way given he still lives at home with his parents and brother.

“Dad’s always on my a--- about paying rent,’’ Windhager told viewers post match.

“This will make them happy.”
