‘The girls never fight, it’s the boys that are bitches,’ ’Jackie ‘O’ on radio war of words

Radio host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson has given an update on her and Kyle Sandilands’ debut on Melbourne airwaves and has weighed in on the criticism from FM rivals.

Kyle and Jackie O Melbourne debut delayed

Radio host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson has promised she and partner in crime Kyle Sandilands will be on air “pretty soon” after the powerhouse duo’s breakfast debut on Melbourne airwaves was delayed.

Henderson said there was no strategy behind the move, it was just timing.

“We were never going to go up at the beginning of the year,” she said.

“The exact start I don’t have, but it is pretty soon. That was always the intention.

“I think there’s a couple of things actually, we’re moving studios as well and we’ve got new premises and we didn’t want to do too many things at once. It wasn’t anything too strategic.”

Henderson flew into Melbourne on Thursday afternoon to attend the Australian Open Inspirational Series event where supermodel Elle Macpherson was the keynote speaker.

She said she can’t wait to enter the market here on KIIS FM, and warned the pair would shake things up.

“I’m excited actually. We used to broadcast to Melbourne years ago and when Kyle and I did the Hot 30 for a national show all those years ago, Melbourne was always our biggest audience out of every city in Australia,” she said.

“That by far and away superseded everybody else’s figures so I’ve always had this kind of special love for the Melbourne audience for that reason. Because they were always really loyal back in the day.

“So it’s good to come back on air so many years later, it’s also a challenge and I like that. Some of my favourite times in radio have been where I’ve started from a place where you do have to work hard for it and I love a challenge so it’s good.”

Henderson said she wasn’t interested in a war of words with rivals and said they were just having fun.

“All we can do is just the show we do,” she said.

“It’s not the end of the world, we’re only having fun and it’s pure and simple and hopefully people listening like to have a bit of fun on the way to work.

“It will be something different for Melbourne breakfast and that’s the appeal in a way, it’s going to shake things up and that’s always a good thing I think.

“Kyle is really excited. The girls never fight, it’s the boys that are bitches. Girls don’t care about that. I’ve got girlfriends at all the networks.”

Henderson said she loved going to events and would embrace that part of Melbourne and come down regularly.

“I always get into this stuff, I love going to events and stuff so that’s right up my alley,” she said.

“I would never want to broadcast to a city where I didn’t have a part of that. I love Melbourne and I used to live here for a number of years and it’s good I get to come back regularly now.”

Evonne Goolagong Cawley was honoured at the Inspo Series event, 50 years after she won the Australian Open for the first time.
