IT could be titled The Odd Couple, with Ten green-lit to produce its new series pairing Lisa McCune and Peter Helliar as a couple.
The show How To Stay Married is one of several productions that have received funding from Screen Australia, which yesterday announced $7.4 million worth of support for local film, TV and online projects.
McCune and Helliar’s characters have been married 13 years, with the series following how their characters will cope with a new job, an unexpected house guest, a redundancy and an experimental sex move.
Mystery thriller Lambs Of God for Foxtel, about three eccentric secluded nuns who live on a remote island, is one of the more interesting projects to receive financial support.
The show has already created buzz in industry circles.
Nazeem Hussain’s comedy series Orange Is The New Brown coming to Channel 7 has also been granted funding.
The six-part series, co-written by the popular Muslim comedian, will reflect contemporary Australian life and include sketches, original and recurring characters and television parodies.
The show, which plays on the name of hit American series Orange Is The New Black, is being produced by Screentime for Channel 7 and is currently being filmed in Sydney.
It will also feature comedian Urzila Carlson.
Channel 7 could not confirm when the show would air.
Other projects include the directorial debut by Rachel Griffiths , Ride Like A Girl, a biopic of champion jockey Michelle Payne, and feature film Poor Boy, directed by and starring Guy Pearce.
Pearce is bringing his girlfriend, Game of Thrones star Carice van Houten, home to star in his first film.
The movie is based on the supernatural stage play that Pearce performed with the MTC in 2009 about a little boy who tells his family on his seventh birthday that he is a grown man named Danny, who died seven years prior.
Pearce met Dutch star van Houten — GoT’s Red Woman Melisandre — on the set of western Brimstone in 2015.
Their son Monte was born in August 2016.
