A day after admitting it would be a “slow burn” in the Melbourne market, Kyle Sandilands has responded to a viral TikTok video from a Melbourne mother shocked by the show’s “R-rated” content.

Sandilands admitted “maybe we’re on the wrong trajectory” after hearing the mother’s shock at a graphic segment on The Kyle and Jackie O Show with producer Lachy discussing his sexual encounter with an OnlyFans model.

“We’ve been in Sydney doing this show for over 20 years and a couple of months we’ve been broadcasting to Melbourne,’’ Sandilands said on Thursday.

“Maybe we’re on the wrong trajectory ... remember when Lachy rooted the OnlyFans at the Gold Coast and then Lachy came on and was telling us how he fingered her and she came. Well the woman heard that and she’s gone on TikTok and she’s blown up. She thinks we are disgusting, we are filth, she couldn’t believe it, she was in shock.

“We’re not for everyone.

“Some of us we don’t care about that shit. Why is she so shook? Has she had sex?”

Sandilands’ co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson said she understood the shock but said it’s what they do.

“It’s kind of like because (Melbourne listeners) are not used to it. It’d be like watching The Project one night, and then suddenly Waleed turns to Tommy Little and goes, ‘So, I fingered this chick on the weekend, went down on her.’ And it would be like, ‘Oh my god, what am I watching?’. It would be shocking because you’re not used to it.”

Sandilands said it was possibly feigned outrage.

“Mothers in Melbourne wearing Kmart jumpers are no fans of ours. Oh well. Never mind,’’ he said.

On Wednesday, Sandilands responded to the latest survey of the show, which broadcast into Melbourne on KIIS FM from the end of April, that only rated 5.9 which was the same result as the last survey, saying it would be a “slow burn”.

“I heard we were invited on The Project last night to talk about the Melbourne ratings because not much happened for us in Melbourne … we gained another 50,000 people but apparently that wasn’t good enough. It’s a slow burn, not everyone wants to hear about dildos and arse lickings and fistings.

“If we’re going to be doing any interviews we’ll be doing it on a high-rating show not some piece of shit like The Project.”

Sandilands admitted his wife Tegan watched the show.

“Tegan, my wife, watches it and it’s on in the background and I’m always bitching about it,’’ he said. “Where that’s fat old pr--- Steve Price, I thought he’d died.”

Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson signed a landmark 10-year deal worth a reported $200m in November last year to remain on air until 2034.

They are trailing behind leaders Gold FM’s Christian O’Connell (10.8), Nova’s Jase and Lauren who were sacked to make way for them (9.6), Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev and Nick (9.5), smoothfm’s Mike Perso and Nikole Gunn (8.6) and the departing The Marty Sheargold Show on Triple M that rated 6.6.
