Natalie Bassingthwaighte admits her move to Byron Bay hasn’t gone exactly to plan, but she has no regrets.
The singer and actor relocated from Melbourne in February with husband Cameron McGlinchey and their two children Harper and Hendrix.
“Last year it was like, ‘let’s move to Byron and have a sabbatical and home school our kids’.
“Oh, hang on, this isn’t exactly what I had in mind so be careful what you wish for.
“But there’s probably no better place to be so I’m feeling pretty grateful.”
Bassingthwaighte, who starred in Chicago the Musical in Melbourne before moving, said she was using the time well.
“I’m learning the piano, on my iPad I’m doing an interior design course and learning French, so I feel like I’m utilising my time in isolation,’’ she said.
“And embracing the time with just the four of us because we haven’t had that for ages.
“If you’re going to be at home then be surrounded by loved ones and that makes it all worthwhile.”
Bassingthwaighte is supporting the Mother’s Day campaign, #MultipleHatsMum and multiplehatsmum.com.au, by Australian retailer Bing Lee to mark its new warehouse in Melbourne. It highlights which gifts are on trend this year.
“I’ve always been known to wear multiple hats in the workforce and now I’m doing it as a mum it’s a lot more challenging,’’ Bassingthwaighte said.
“Getting there some days are a harder than others. Hats off to my mum really. I think how on earth did she do it with four girls and no devices at all. I’m bowing down to her, believe me.”
