THE Footy Show’s founding producer Harvey Silver says he wants to bring the show back to the people.

Silver, part of the show’s huge success after it launched in 1994, returns as supervising producer following an absence of almost 20 years.

“It’s like travelling full circle for me,’’ Silver said.

Eddie (McGuire), Sam (Newman) and I (right) were there for the start of The Footy Show, and 24 years later it is incredibly exciting to be back.

“I believe the show has tremendous goodwill among the audience. I’ve already felt a real energy from Ed, Sam and the team. Everyone wants the show to be the best it can be and I’m super confident we can put together a great program week-in, week-out.

“I can’t give away too much around content, but I will say that we will be far more interactive with our audience — both in the studio and watching live at home — than we have ever been.

“We want our fans to feel part of the show, that they have some ownership of it, not that they are just watching it.”

Silver understands there would be much speculation about the makeup of the show.

He left in 1998 to join Channel 7 and then started his own company, Silver Spoon Productions.

“We already have segment ideas involving current and past players, but of course with Eddie on board he will make sure the footy news is always in sharp focus,’’ Silver said.

“Of course I feel close to the show, just like Eddie, I feel it is my baby.

“It’s amazing to think it was 1994 when this all started and it is still resonates with viewers, and I will do everything I can to ensure it has many, many years left.”
