It’s a plot twist that would make Neighbours writers proud: Ryan Moloney, who plays hot shot solicitor Toadie Rebecchi on the Ramsay St soap, is dumping law to drive trucks.

Moloney is doing a civil construction course as part of his future plan after Neighbours takes its final bow, after 37 years on air, later this week.

“I’m not ruling anything out,” Moloney said. “I’m doing civil construction course which is about driving excavators and building roads.

“I like playing with those kinds of machines. I like doing earthworks, all that kind of manual labour stuff. That’s where I’m at, but who knows where it’s all going to end up?”

Moloney also has a commercial pilots licence.

“I wanted to be an Air Force pilot, but then I got the gig on Neighbours,” he said.

“I completed my commercial pilot’s licence a few years ago. I thought, ‘Maybe I’ll come back to (flying) when the time’s right. But after Covid, there’s all these incredibly young, skilled pilots out there, who are out of work.

“I don’t I’ll get a gig in there,” Moloney said. “We’ll just move on to the next thing.”

Toadie, who debuted on Neighbours as a troublemaking teen, was meant to be a visitor on Ramsay St for one episode.

But the character proved popular, and Moloney was invited back — for 27 years.

“To be a working actor in Australia with consistent work is incredibly special. And I have a large dose of gratitude towards life into what is created.”

Meanwhile, Moloney is promoting a Menulog campaign shouting Aussie neighbours living all on Ramsay Streets around the nation a free feed.

He laughed: “I would’ve offered to be a Menulog driver but I haven’t had much luck in cars.”

Toadie famously drove his first wife, Dee Bliss, off a cliff hours after their wedding.
