A nervous Ross Lyon says he will show empathy in his new role doing special comments on radio Triple M.
The former St Kilda and Fremantle coach moved back to Melbourne from Perth and has settled in ahead of his commentary debut.
“I’ll be supportive of clubs and teams and players really,’’ Lyon said.
“Not everyone can win the premiership, there’s different points of development.
“I’m certainly not coming in swinging a baseball bat, I just want to … try to be myself and give a perspective from a coaching perspective.
“Try to give some empathy, I’m not here to beat anyone up.
“I’m nervous. It’s a new discipline.”
Lyon, who will also be a panellist on Footy Classified, will make his Triple M debut at the Hawthorn v Brisbane game on the Sunday of Round 1, along with Wayne Carey, Nathan Brown, Mark Howard, Jay Clark, Michael Roberts and Ash Chua.
“It’s been enjoyable to have a break but I’m excited by it,’’ Lyon said.
“Hopefully I can give some insights and keep it simple. I’ve always listened to the Triple M guys.
“We’re all human, we all want to be wanted. I understand I’ve got some currency at the minute. It gets you out of your comfort zone, it’s nice to have a new challenge.”
Lyon is pleased the pressure valve has lifted.
“If I stuff it up, I just get sacked again so that’s all right.
“All care, no responsibility.”
