“I have been cast in the fashion takeover event on February 9 which is part of New York Fashion Week,” Robbie said on the tarmac ahead of her flight to New York on Saturday.

“At 60 it feels amazing to think I have been given this opportunity.

“It is one up for the oldies and one up for Australia and hopefully something big will come out of this. Age is a state-of-mind rather than a life-defining figure.”

Canner insists landing the coveted gig is not a publicity stunt, stating that fashion isn’t something reserved for the young.

“It is about who you are and what you represent more than how you look,” the reigning oldest beauty queen said.

“I am busier than I have ever been throughout my career.

“I have been modelling since I was 16-years-old and have done film and TV work too. Since I won Miss World in June last year in Seattle, all these wonderful opportunities have come up and it’s because of my age. At 60 I have been featured in media and graced the covers in 50 odd countries around the world. Age is no barrier these days.

“I never thought I would be this busy at 60. I am supposed to be sitting back and relaxing and going on holidays.”

The death of her son Scott Canner aged 22, who died of non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma seven years ago, was what prompted Canner to change her state of mind and achieve the seemingly unattainable.

“I found all of this after my son died form cancer,” she said.

“That was a traumatic time for me and pageantry gave me something to focus on me.

“Now I am walking New York so it has been an amazing journey since I was 57 years old

“Going into retirement? no I don’t think so. Bring life on.”
