Melbourne rich lister and IT entrepreneur Danny Wallis is the proud owner of four sets of heritage number plates for a cool million dollars.

Famous for his outrageous bids and purchases of TV’s The Block properties, Wallis forked out for the rare numbers during a Shannons online auction.

“I like them and they go up in price,’’ Wallis told the Herald Sun.

“You just put them in the garage and you don’t have to worry about tenants.

“The auction went for seven days, I had to bid four times. It was a very stressful time.”

Wallis, who likes to bid in odd amounts, bought three houses on The Block in Brighton last year and donated one of them to the My Room Children’s Cancer Charity.

He paid $1,080,000 plus a few cents for the four plates — numbers 483, 723, 247 and 831 — with prices ranging from $220,000 to $360,000.

He said the lower the number the more value they gain.

One number is know to have gone up from $75,000 to $300,000 in six years.

He would love to find the number 44, as he’s born on the fourth of April, and has offered to pay $1.1m for it.

Two years ago there was a new record for vintage plates with the number 26 selling at auction for $1.11m.
