Radio host Lauren Phillips is recovering after being rushed to hospital at the weekend with difficulty breathing.

The KIIS FM breakfast host told her co-host Jase Hawkins and Clint Stanaway that she ended up in an isolation ward at the Alfred Hospital.

“Bit scary on Saturday night, I woke up breathless and choking,” she said.

“They tried to get my breathing back… they couldn’t quite get on top of it so they said we have to take you into the Alfred. They were really amazing at calming me down.”

Phillips said she thought it may have been Covid or a virus.

“Our healthcare workers are extraordinary,” Phillips said. “It turned out to be a really severe respiratory virus.”

Hawkins told listeners: “For anybody that missed it the poor thing was rushed to hospital on Saturday night, she was having trouble breathing. Clint was actually there with (her partner) Paul, those two were nine bottles of vino in so an ambulance was called. She spent the night at the Alfred.”

Phillips gave an update on social media Tuesday night, saying she was on the mend at home.

“Thank you for all your messages. I’m back at home resting and feeling much better and

I’ll be back to work as soon as I can.

“Cheers to our incredible Ambos and health care workers. You are all amazing.

“A reminder to look after your health and listen to your bodies when they need a rest.”

Phillips, a former TV personality, recently marked one year on air in the plum breakfast shift.

The show’s ratings have continued to rise and the best result came last week, gaining the most on the FM dial of 1.6 to record 8.1, behind leader, GOLD FM’s Christian O’Connell.
