Collingwood two-time premiership star Steele Sidebottom is preparing for more joy with wife Alisha due to give birth to the couple’s second child.
Sidebottom said the baby, a brother or sister for three year-old Matilda, could arrive “any minute”.
The couple stepped out Friday night at the Australian Open as guests of Emirates, with Alisha getting around on a crutch after falling and hurting her knee a week ago.
“She’s due February 6 but think she’s going to go early because the baby is measuring big so it could be any minute,” Sidebottom said.
“She was leaving work last Friday and she rolled her ankle a bit and fell forward and landed on her knee and fractured her patella. Then at 3am she tried to go to the toilet and fell over again but she’s alright, we’re excited.”
Sidebottom will take some time off after the new arrival but has loved returning to training.
The 33 year-old said he was as hungry as ever for more success after winning last year’s premiership.
“It is good to be back, I need some routine in my life and a bit of structure,” he said.
“If I wasn’t (hungry) I wouldn’t be going to training today, tomorrow and the next day.
You get a taste for it and it would be nice if you could bottle that up, that feeling, and have a sip every now and then. The only way to do it is to win another one.
“I like going to training and I feel like I’m 25 again. The body is feeling good. I’ll be playing footy for as long as I can.”
