Network 10’s bold move: New stars lead major shake-up

Network 10 has announced a major overhaul of its evening programming - a fresh current affairs show led by Amelia Brace and Denham Hitchcock, as it responds to ratings pressure and bids farewell to The Project.

Two days after Network 10 axed The Project, a new look current affairs team has been revealed spearheaded by Amelia Brace and Denham Hitchcock.

10 News+ will see the pair host the one hour national news, current affairs and investigations bulletin Sunday to Thursday from 6pm while veteran journalist Hugh Riminton and Ursula Heger are on board Friday nights.

“I’m incredibly proud of the exceptional team of journalists we’ve brought together,” executive producer Daniel Sutton, who is stepping back from his on-air duties after 19 years with the network, said.

“They are driven truth-seekers and compelling storytellers, united by a commitment to go beyond the headlines. Above all, we’ll tell stories with heart, compassion, and integrity.”

On Monday, Ten announced a major shake-up of its evening line-up.

The Project will broadcast its final episode on June 27, leaving long-time hosts Waleed Aly Sarah Harris without a job.

Ten was forced to make the major programming changes amid ongoing ratings pressure.

The new format show will premiere 10 News+ on Monday June 30 with Ten assembling a team of talent, some from rival networks, for the new gig.

Bill Hogan has jumped from Seven, while Carrie-Anne Greenbank and Claudia Vrdoljak formerly worked at Nine and Brianna Parkins was at the ABC. Brace has taken the job from Seven, where Hitchcock also previously worked until January 2023. Moving to the show within Ten is Ashleigh Raper, Samantha Butler and Angela Bishop. Production is based out of the network’s Pyrmont headquarters.

“I have always operated without fear or favour, with an unwavering commitment to the public’s right to know, and a determination to find and expose the truth,” Brace said.

“Denham and I are not just presenters, we’re journalists. Between us, there’s little we haven’t covered. We’ll be sharing not just information but understanding. The facts, but also context and background.”

Hitchcock, 44, has spent the past few years sailing the world with his wife and children.

“This is a rare opportunity to be at the ground level of an exciting new program,” he said.

“Yes, we will be here to tell the stories that matter daily, to ask the real questions that get to the heart of it, but we will also be mixing it with the main players when it comes to the big news events that capture the nation’s attention. When I look around the newsroom, I see a crack team that’s ready to hit the go button.”
