Time On is your Monday wrap up of all the footy gossip from the weekend.

Nathan Buckley will shed his serious persona in new Fox Footy entertainment show Best On Ground.

On the show, which will debut from 10.30pm on Saturday night before a live audience and with a live band, Buckley is set to reveal his humorous and fun side along with fellow panellists Nick Riewoldt, Mark Howard, Jonathan Brown and Kath Loughnan.

“It’s good to see Bucks just loosen right up,’’ said Brown at rehearsal last week.

“He’s good, I always knew he had it in him but it’s probably hard to do it as an AFL coach – certainly publicly.”

We’ve been promised a different side of Nathan Buckley on the new footy entertainment show.

Riewoldt added: “It’s nice to be able to take the seriousness out of footy at times. I think the personalities of people, which have always been viewed a certain way, will be coming out.

“We’ve seen Bucks as a serious player and then a coach for a long period but he’s got a great personality, so people will enjoy seeing that side. It’s all about having fun and being self-deprecating”.

Howard, host of the show — which will feature the Best on Ground band led by former Demon Russell Robertson and muso Phil Ceberano — said: “We’ll see a different side to these people and also Kath who is so professional in front of the camera but is a funny lady. It’s all about the mix of personalities”.

Footy’s fried rice feud reheated

It’s been 13 years since Channel 10 sports presenter Stephen Quartermain and legendary goalkicker Jason Dunstall were embroiled in one of footy’s great on-air feuds.

They exchanged heated words after Dunstall tossed a tray of fried rice over the head of his fellow commentator in the Triple M box.

Quartermain got on the front foot on Saturday when Dunstall sneezed mid-sentence on Fox Footy’s coverage.

On a video of the moment he tweeted a joke: “I think I saw some rice fly out”.

“I was watching it and I had a chuckle,’’ Quartermain told Time On.

“Three or four times a week someone mentions it to me on Twitter so I just got on the front foot. My great fear is sneezing on air. Every week someone mentions it so it was a bit of fun.”

Heath Shaw retires from reality

Heath Shaw says a brief look at SAS: Australia has confirmed his reality show days are behind him.

The former Collingwood and GWS star competed on the brutal military style series last year and was reminded of how traumatic it was.

“I flicked on SAS the other night and I had to turn it off – PTSD is a thing,’’ he said.

“They were walking into the water with their arms linked and I just thought I don’t know how I got through the 10 days I did.

“I don’t think I’d be a good Bachelor, the jungle is too hard and I’m not someone who is good at maths so the cue is in the rack.”

Heath Shaw is swapping his reality TV days for a new footy show with Dale Thomas and Georgie Parker.

Shaw is co-hosting new footy program, The Sunday Session, alongside Dale Thomas and Georgie Parker, which debuted on Sunday on 7Plus following Richmond v GWS.

“We all played for Collingwood – one got sacked, one got asked to leave and one left,’’ Shaw said.

“We want to have a bit of fun and I think following the Heater and Daisy show we’ve upgraded.

“We’re coming from a different angle and it’s unfiltered so if you don’t want to watch the news, flick over to us.”

Less is more for Buddy’s 1000th

Credit where credit is due — James Brayshaw deserves praise for his call of Buddy’s 1000th goal on Friday night.

On Channel 7’s coverage he pulled out the line: “The legend becomes immortal” as the ball sailed through the goals. He then let the pictures do the talking and people swarmed onto the ground.

It was a commentary masterclass alongside Brian Taylor who no doubt would have had something up his sleeve if it had been his turn.

Stephen Quartermain, who called Buddy’s 100th goal in 2008 at Telstra Dome, said he loved the theatre of a great footy tradition.

“It was one of those incredible nights and it was absolute chaos but when you look back the security at Telstra Dome did a pretty good job,’’ Quartermain said.

“I remember as a kid running out onto the ground and it’s one of the few traditions left so I was rapt with what I saw. When you look back on it people will go ‘wow’.”

Heroes and villains

* There have been some graphic injuries on the footy field but poor umpire Razor Ray Chamberlain was an unusual casualty on Sunday.

The colourful umpire was captured throwing up on the ground with social media lighting up after the pictures were posted. There was little sympathy but a lot of tongue in cheek content about his umpiring.

Always a trooper, Chamberlain pushed on and officiated the rest of the match.

*The Collingwood cheer squad didn’t miss Kane Cornes with its banner on Saturday.

Cornes had been critical of the club’s post game celebrations after Round 1 with young player Jack Ginnivan being given the GoPro to take fans inside the players’ joy. He thought it was a bit over the top — in response the banner carried a not so subtle message: “Kane Cornes The Fun Police”.
