The queen of tennis, Morgan Riddle, has failed to make good on her promise to eat a jar of Vegemite.
In a six minute Instagram live video, Riddle actually walked off camera and made gagging noises after taking in a small spoonful of the iconic Aussie food.
She made a vow before her partner, US star Taylor Fritz, took to the court against Stefanos Tsitsipas saying she’d eat a jar of Vegemite if he won.
Fritz duly prevailed on Sunday and was he presented with a jar of Vegemite on the court after the game when interviewed post-game by Adam Peacock.
“I will make sure it happens,’’ he said of Riddle’s bet.
Riddle armed herself with butter, sourdough bread and a bottle of Kombucha but all she could say was: “That was disgusting. Nope. No.”
She had three different sizes of Vegemite jars and said she’d give them away.
“It’s so gross, I’ve heard Marmite is better … I didn’t think people would take it so seriously.
“If anyone needs some Vegemite you’re welcome to come to our hotel because I will not ever be having a bite of that again.”
Fritz appeared on the video and had no sympathy.
“You’re making this a big deal, just do it,’’ he said.
Riddle tried it with some sour dough but gave up.
“Taylor won’t even take a lick of it and I made him try it last year and he wasn’t into it,’’ she said.”
She promised not to make any bets — “it was a poor idea” — ahead of Fritz’s big match against no. 1 Novak Djokovic on Tuesday.
There were over 3,000 people watching the video which was her first live to the social media platform.
She also showed people the Believe sign in their hotel room.
“The Ted Lasso Believe sign travelled with us. Good omen for the week and wish us luck,’’ she said.
