Mike Brady will sing his footy anthem Up There Cazaly at an empty MCG on grand final day
Up There Cazaly is a Grand Final day staple, but this year’s rendition will be like no other. Mike Brady has revealed why his 2020 performance will be “the strangest” — and how it will be different.

Legendary performer Mike Brady says it will be eerie performing at the MCG alone, but he is honoured to be performing his anthem Up There Cazaly on AFL Grand Final day.
“I’m really happy, actually very honoured,’’ Brady told the Herald Sun.
“It’s an unusual year, and if they hadn’t asked me that would have been OK, because it’s a complex year.
“But it’s something positive out of a dark year.”
Brady will sing solo with his guitar at an empty MCG on October 24 with the performance expected to be linked with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and beamed into the Gabba.
“It will be my umpteenth time doing it, but this will be the strangest,’’ Brady said.
“I’ll still have a big smile on my face whether there’s a crowd there or not.
“The MCG, they call it the hallowed turf, and in actual fact, it is a sacred place.
“I’ll do a slightly different version, but the same words and I’m really pleased because I think it will be well received by Queenslanders.”
Brady won’t perform his other anthem, One Day in September.
Earlier this month, he told the Herald Sun he was keen to be part of it in a year when people needed to hear it.
Brady first sung Up There Cazaly at the Grand Final in 1979.
“I did do One Day in October once but people said it was horrible last time and I tend to agree,’’ Brady said.
“The Premier of Queensland had Up There Cazaly playing in the background prior to her launch announcement so that’s a good sign. They asked for permission, which was polite.”
