Melbourne actor and comedian Nikki Osborne and her family have been freed from Queensland quarantine to start a new life to save her children’s mental health.

Osborne, husband Jamie, and kids Will and Teddy, spent 14 days in hotel lockdown after fleeing Victoria’s stage four restrictions to live in the sunshine state.

Their youngest son, Teddy, has autism.

She and Jamie decided to leave Melbourne permanently after seeing Will and Teddy’s mental health “deteriorate”.

Osborne told Confidential: “My youngest needs to be in a classroom, and he needs to be social. It’s been hard seeing the impact on my youngest. That broke me.

“This kid needs to be playing, he needs to be in the sun, he needs to be out and about and away from this very strange environment.

Osborne said quarantine was tough. They were allowed 15 minutes of fresh air every day, and she washed their dishes and clothes in the bath.

“We didn’t have access to an opening window or balcony, which I thought I’d really struggle with, but you adjust to waking with cracked lips and dry throat from the aircon.

“There were four of us in our cell.”

The family has a house near the beach, and Osborne said her only work requirement is to be near an airport.

Meanwhile, she has narrated an episode of Channel 10’s Drunk History.

“It was a dream gig,” she said. “You’re at hair and make up at 10am, and they’re like, ‘Are you ready for your first drink yet?’

“I’m getting tarted up, the birds are chirping, and I’m drinking my first couple of scotches. I mixed it up a bit — prosecco and scotches; uppers and downers — with scotch, I’m chill, prosecco, I’m giggly.

“As soon as you get slurry, they’re like, ‘Right, get on the couch and start telling your story.’”

Osborne competed in the 2020 season of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, and starred in a US miniseries, The Mystery Of Natalie Wood, and the Paul Hogan biopic, Hoges.
