Matty J has a new love interest — the former Bachelor has fallen head over heels for the airwaves.
He may not have a face for radio, but Confidential can exclusively reveal Matt “Matty J” Johnson will join industry veteran Sarah McGilvray and Fitzy and Wippa’s news reader Matt De Groot to host Nova’s summer breakfast slot.
And if you think this sounds familiar, you’re right.

It’s a similar move to his Bachie predecessor Sam Frost who managed to land herself a coveted role behind the mic next to Rove McManus on rival network 2DayFM, however the duo was axed after just 18 months for poor ratings.
Knowing he’s perfectly positioning himself for a public lashing, Johnson admits he’s nervous about the new gig.
“You’re really putting yourself out there on radio for criticism and I don’t have the excuse of ‘it’s my first time cut me some slack’,” Johnson, who did a stint on Sea FM earlier this year, said.
“I’ve got mixture of nerves and excitement like with any job. You get first day nerves and you really don’t want to stuff up and make a good first impression.”
While this may be a similar path to Frost, Johnson assured Confidential he won’t be popping up on Home And Away or Neighbours any time soon.
Commenting on the recent rumours reported by Confidential about The Loop’s Scott Tweedie — also a close mate of Johnson’s — being the next Bachelor he said: “He’s such a hardworking, nice guy, he fits the mould perfectly.”
On the home front, all is well with Matty J and Laura Byrnewho met last year’s season on The Bachelor.
Having lived together for three months now, Johnson hinted that a proposal may not be far away.
Only problem is, Byrnes owns her own jewellery brand and has recently started making bespoke engagement rings, so Johnson can’t decide whether to “send an actor in undercover and design the perfect ring or go to one of her competitiors and p**s her off”.
