Collingwood forward Mason Cox will add marriage celebrant to his list of achievements later this year.
The towering Texan is set to marry his old college friend in Oklahoma.
“I’ll become a celebrant in America and I’m going to marry my friends from college, that’s New Year’s Eve,’’ he said.
“(My friend and I) made this pact back when we were in college, he was like, ‘man if I ever get married will you be my celebrant’.
“I didn’t think about it but he called me up the other day and said do you want to do the ordaining thing, and I was like, ‘yeah why not’.
“I don’t think it transfers to Australia. I went online, I pay $30 and it’s like a certification.”
Cox celebrated thanksgiving early with friends at TGI Fridays in Melbourne Central.
After a serious eye injury ended his season he is itching to return to training and has already been back at the club.
He said thanksgiving, which Americans will celebrate on Thursday, was always a big occasion growing up.

“You eat, end up falling asleep during the day, watch football and then you get up for seconds during the night,’’ Cox said.
“We used to travel to my grandparents house, (we’d have) green beans, turkey, dressing, stuffing, cranberry sauce, it would take up the whole kitchen. My dad’s side of the family was all there. It would go over two days, it was kind of a reunion.”
