Rogue Traders star Natalie Bassingthwaighte kicked off Victoria’s 17-day music festival with fire and new-found freedom on Saturday night.
Bassingthwaighte, who is also an actor, played as support act, alongside Jessica Mauboy, to US headliner Christina Aguilera at Flemington Racecourse.
“You’re making me feel hot up here ... if that’s even possible,” Bassingthwaighte told the crowd during an energetic set of Rogue Traders and solo hits.
The show was part of Victoria’s exclusive music showcase, Always Live.
She performed favourites including Alive, 1000 Stars, Watching You and Voodoo Child.
Bassingthwaighte’s solo performance also followed revelations she had split from husband Cameron McGlinchey, and found love with a female partner.
“I’m (now) in a beautiful relationship with a woman who makes my heart smile and makes me really happy,” Bassingthwaighte told Stellar Magazine last week.
She said McGlinchey, a musician with whom she shares two children, was supportive of her new path.
Their daughter, Harper, was in the moshpit at Flemington on Saturday.
Always Live, a Visit Victoria initiative, runs until December 10, and feature Melbourne-only shows by Swedish DJ Eric Prydz, who has sold out three Rod Laver Arena shows, and US country star Zach Bryan, who sold out his Flemington Racecourse show in 20 minutes.
