Lauren Phillips’ ex-husband Lachlan Spark breaks silence on her and their failed marriage

After brutally trashing his ex-wife, Lachlan Spark has banished commenters who hit out at his savage Lauren Phillips takedown, claiming there was no malice in it.

Lauren Phillips’ ex-husband says his scathing attack on her character and their failed marriage was more a celebration of his new life, rather than a sledge of his old one.

Despite posting a blistering lengthy social media post in which he said the Channel 9 star “cared much more about herself’ during their relationship, he said it wasn’t intending to be malicious.

“That certainly wasn’t my intent,” he said.

“I wrote it purely to put it out there (for my own benefit more than anyone else’s) that I’d put a difficult period behind me. Nothing malicious.”

Spark disabled comments on the post after being slammed by some users who questioned his motives for the brutal takedown.

One wrote: “Be graceful, if your new girl knows how you feel about her that’s all that matters, you don’t have to drag a girl down to lift another up, publicly or privately. Time to grow up matey.”

Another wrote: “If you were really that happy would you need to take a swipe at your ex? Wouldn’t you just be happy that the previous path lead you to the current one?”

Spark said his world changed when he ran into his new girlfriend, Courtney Wynbergen.

Phillips and Spark were married for a year before announcing their shock split in 2018 after seven years together.

Spark, a former TV producer, also said the break up had “absolutely nothing to do with infidelity”.

“We were just two people heading in vastly different directions who figured it out a little too late,’’ he said.

In the Instagram post, Spark wrote: “A while ago, I married a girl who cared much more about herself and how she was perceived than she did about me.

“It was a lot … too much, actually. I left and despite losing almost every friend I’d found over seven years (and a few other “best mates” for good measure) in the blink of an eye, it was the best thing I’ve ever done.”

Spark, who has moved to Sydney and runs his own creative agency, went on to say that he thought he’d never find the love that he deserved.

“Approaching 40, I was more than a bit nervous I’d wasted a big chunk of my life with the wrong person, and that I was long odds to find anyone who was willing (or able) to give me the love I knew I deserved,” he wrote.

He took another swipe at his ex, saying: “I truly believed there was more to a relationship (and life) than skin-deep friends, free holidays and Instagram followers - I just needed to find it.”

Spark said he met his new girlfriend Courtney by “sheer, dumb luck”.

“I ran into this girl and my world changed,’ he wrote.

“She’s the most considerate and understanding person I’ve ever known. She’s a risk taker and a rebel. She’s passionate, and she’s a fighter.”

He went on to call Courtney “loyal” and “utterly magnificent”, then added: “She knows how to love me like I’ve never been loved before … Anything (and everything) but vanilla. I love you.”

Split rumours began circulating after fans noticed Spark had removed himself from social media and Phillips had stopped wearing her wedding and engagement rings.

It’s believed their divorce has been finalised, with Phillips also moving on and in a relationship with multi-millionaire jet tycoon Paul O’Brien, the ex of Sunrise’s Samantha Armytage who is close friends with the Hemsworths.

In March last year, she opened up about their split and has maintained a dignified stance.

“It’s been a hectic few months trying to find my feet and I suppose trying to get my confidence back again,” Phillips said.

“I think often when you’re going through a difficult time people rally around you and that’s what I’ve done.

“People go through difficult times and we made a promise to be there for each other.”

Phillips, the Weekend Today weather presenter, relocated to Byron Bay during Melbourne’s lockdown earlier this year. She declined to comment about Spark’s post.
