Kyle Sandilands considering legal action of Kyle Chalmers’ sneakers

A swimming champion’s sneakers could be set to spark a courtroom battle with Kyle Sandilands, as the radio host weights up his legal options.

Could the two most famous Kyles in Australia be headed for a legal showdown?

Kyle Sandilands says he’s considered taking legal action against swimming champion Kyle Chalmers for using the moniker “King Kyle” in a shoe range he’s just released.

Sandilands’ team says he owns the copyright for the name.

“He’s brought out a shoe range with King Kyle written on the side and my legal team are like you own the IP internationally, no one else can use that without you getting paid,’’ Sandilands said.

“My quandary is, do I bombard this bloke with the legal letters, take all his medals, take his house, his car, shut this company down, like bulldoze the joint down and then bring home a couple metres of dirt as a trophy, or do I just not worry about it.”

The KIIS FM breakfast co-host was mulling over the situation with Jackie ‘O’ Henderson.

“I lean to not worry about it,’’ he admitted.

Jackie urged him to give it serious thought.

“(To say) it’s just business, well that’s bullshit,’’ she said.

“You think right now it’ll blow over and it’ll be nothing, but what if it becomes this huge thing and you own that brand.

“You don't want to be an a--hole about it.

“I think you should let them use the run they’ve done already then say maybe you should look at a different name. Oh, I don’t know Kyle, it’s a horrible situation to be in.”

Sandilands said: “If I made a shoe with Coca-Cola written on the side, they’d be outraged”.

Chalmers teamed up with shoe company Athletikan to release his own signature sneaker line, the first Australian swimmer to design his own sneakers.

The shoes, which sport a special KC logo for “King Kyle”, are bright neon yellow and green to reflect the Australian swim colours.
