Katie Noonan regrets anger sparked by Madonna post
Katie Noonan, the latest performer to be revealed on The Masked Singer, says she regrets a controversial social media post she wrote about Madonna. But she’s not backing down on her thoughts about plastic surgery.

Australian chart-topper Katie Noonan says she regrets creating a “shit show” over her social media post about Madonna and plastic surgery.
Noonan, who was unmasked as a contestant on Channel 10’s The Masked Singer on Tuesday, told Confidential: “I unintentionally offended a lot of people who do use plastic surgery and Botox and fillers.
“In Australia, we spend $1 billion a year on injectables, facelifts, boob jobs and liposuction.
“That makes me quite sad, but each to their own. I’m not judging those who do it. It’s their own body, and if it makes them happy, that’s great. But I forgot the extremities of internet trolling, and my post caused a shit show it shouldn’t have.
“I do use my socials to talk about things that are important to me. I think ageing gracefully is a beautiful thing and I’m choosing to do it, but I honour and respect those who choose to change their face.”
Noonan made headlines earlier this week after criticising Madonna’s decision to undergo cosmetic surgery.
It came after Madonna posted a number of selfies to her Instagram in celebration of her 62nd birthday last Sunday.
“I loved @madonna as a young girl – she was so unashamedly herself and a badass,” Noonan said on Instagram, adding she was “saddened” by her appearance.
Noonan added: “I genuinely do not understand how any strong, self-respecting woman could do anything like this to their own face.”
Some of Noonan’s followers criticised her for the “judging” and “bullying” comments, adding Madonna can do what she likes with her body and face.
Noonan told Confidential: “I was reflecting upon women I grew up admiring ... Annie Lennox, Joni Mitchell, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Whitney Houston …all these queens.
“When I look at Annie and Joni’s face, I love that they have ... and allowed themselves to age gracefully, and not succumb to societal pressure that’s put on women to keep on chasing some youthful look.”
Noonan didn’t realise she posted on Madonna’s birthday.
“I’ve loved Madonna since I was little. I bought all her albums, watched all the clips, then when I saw that picture and thought: ‘Holy shit, it makes me really sad that someone who is so strong, and such a bad ass, is doing this.
“I’m not saying she shouldn’t,” Noonan said. “I’m surprised she did.”
Noonan, who performed on The Masked Singer as Sally the Sloth, said the show is escapist TV for COVID times.
“I’m glad I did the show because it’s exactly what families need to be doing now; watching TV together and forgetting the problems of the world.”
Noonan said she asked producers for a costume that disguised her body.
“I’m very proud to be a curvy mama, but if you can see my curves it would immediately slim down the choices of Australian singers. There’s only a handful of us.”
She said the costume had a flap for a fan and a drink straw.
“The costume has a back brace, I had a full metal rod that went down my back, and a full crash helmet thingy for my head,” Noonan said.
“There’s no airflow, and luckily the song are 90 seconds. You couldn’t do a whole gig in them. I’m pretty sure you’d faint.”
