Kane Cornes makes huge call on long-term contract extension with SEN
Controversial footy commentator Kane Cornes has made a massive call on his future with national sporting network SEN.
Footy’s most polarising commentator Kane Cornes has signed a long-term deal to remain with SEN until the end of 2029.
Often a critic of clubs signing players on big contracts, Cornes has himself committed to an extension.
“I’ve never been a fan of long-term contracts in footy – so the irony of this deal isn’t lost on me,” Cornes said.
“But SEN is home – I love the team, the audience and the freedom to say what I think. I’m excited to keep doing what I do, and to keep challenging the conversation around sport in this country.”
Cornes was already contracted until the end of 2026. The news revealed on Friday comes on the back of the Herald Sun’s reports there was interest from Southern Cross Austereo and its podcast arm Listnr in Cornes’ Fireball program co-hosted with David King.
SEN boss Craig Hutchison had said the pair was contracted and expected them to stay – with Cornes said to be the one testing the market.
The re-signing comes just weeks after Cornes’ other employer Seven announced plans to merge with SCA.
In its statement SEN said Cornes “will continue to feature across Fireball with Kane & Kingy, Crunch Time, and as part of AFL Nation’s expert commentary team”.
Hutchison said: “Kane is one of the most compelling broadcasters in Australian sport.
“His authenticity, courage and work ethic are unmatched. Our audience loves him, and we’re thrilled he’s committed long-term to SEN.”
