Jordan Ablett says she and husband Gary want to lead by example when they become parents next year.

Ablett, due to give birth to the couple’s first child in January, said Christmas was a time to focus on strong family values.

“We get gifts, but we just try to remain focused on why we actually celebrate Christmas rather than getting so caught up in the materialistic side of things,’’ Ablett said.

“Especially as we prepare for parenthood, it’s important to us that we have these values and be in a position where we’re leading by example for our kids.”

Ablett, who joined the Chadstone Christmas launch and Shop ’Til You Drop celebrations last week, said she and the Geelong Cats star would host Christmas at their home in Geelong.

“We’ll be hosting our families for Christmas at our house this year to make it easier for me just in case we need to make an unexpected trip to the hospital,’’ she said.

“Every year, we just get intentional about making the day special by spending real quality time with each other and our families.”

Ablett said she had experienced a healthy pregnancy after announcing the happy news in July.

The couple, who moved back to Victoria last year, married on New Year’s Day
in 2016.

“I’m feeling really well to be honest. I’ve had a relatively smooth pregnancy, especially after hearing other women’s stories, I can’t really complain too much,’’ she said.

“The baby’s tracking well, is super active and, according to my team of obstetricians, is looking really healthy, so that’s all that matters. I’m due in less than eight weeks so there’s a lot of excitement, and a few nerves, in our family at the moment.”

As for her Christmas wishlist, Ablett said: “A healthy baby and a kind labour.

“Thanks Santa.”
