JESSICA Marais has dropped out of her lead role in Nine’s new drama Bad Mothers and will “step away from acting” for the remainder of the year to focus on her health.

JESSICA Marais has announced she will “step away from acting” for the remainder of the year to focus on her health.

The move comes after the 33-year-old pulled out of attending the Logies in July, also citing health reasons.

The acting break means Marais has stepped aside from her lead role in Nine’s new drama Bad Mothers which was due to start production next month.

Her management released the following statement today: “Jessica has decided to step away from acting for the remainder of 2018 to focus on her health and spend time with her family. She is disappointed that she will not be a part of the Bad Mothers production with such an incredible cast and team behind it, but knows that it is important to take time out to maintain ongoing balance and wellbeing.”

A replacement will be cast and is yet to be announced.

The move follows Marais unexpectedly pulling out of the Logie Awards in July, with her management citing her health as the reason for her absence.

The actor and working mum to Scout, with her ex-partner Home And Away star James Stewart, has previously battled anxiety-related issues.

“It is with much disappointment that we advise Jessica Marais is unable to attend the TV Week Logie Awards due to her health,” the statement said.

“Jess is naturally disappointed, is grateful to TV Week and all the viewers who have nominated her for the Awards this year and wishes all the nominees and her friends a great celebration on Sunday night.”

Bad Mothers also stars Mandy McElhinney, Jessica Tovey and Shalom Brune-Franklin.
