Caroline Wozniacki has opened up about her close friendship with Serena Williams, saying the pair “just clicked” after meeting on the tennis circuit.
Wozniacki, the 2018 Australian Open champion, is heading home tomorrow after playing her final ever tournament at this year’s competition.
“We just enjoy a lot of the same things,’’ the former world No. 1 said.
“The fact we understand what it means to have a tough loss or a great win. We just click, she’s such a fun person and I respect her so much.”
Ironically Wozniacki and Williams lost their singles matches on the same day. They would have played each other had they won.
“I saw Serena right after both our matches, we both needed a hug after those ones,’’ she said. “We hate losing but I know she’ll be back and better than ever.
“If anyone can do it, Serena can do it. She’s such a champion, such a hard worker, she’s been through so much in her life and I definitely believe she will get another (Grand Slam title).”
