Rebel Wilson has revealed she has been the victim of sexual harassment in Hollywood and a deranged stalker.
Speaking at the Australian Open Inspirational Women lunch today, the Pitch Perfect star opened up on a range of topics she’d never publicly spoken of before.
“I’ve obviously encountered instances of sexual harassment and I never actually publicly named the men involved because you have this weird feeling ‘well technically it wasn’t that bad. Is it worth destroying people’s lives over?’
“I do ask myself why did I do that because I think the reason is sometimes it is hard to use your voice and advocate for yourself.”
Wilson says working as a youth ambassador in South Africa and her decade of highs and lows in Hollywood have helped make her stronger. This led to her defamation action in 2015 against Bauer Media over articles which claimed she had lied about her life history.
She succeeded on all claims and won a record $4.7 million settlement which was reduced to $600,000 on appeal.
“At this point in my life I’d had enough and it was time to use my voice,” she says.

“There were all sorts of unethical and weird sh.t I had to endure during the trial but the weirdest was probably a stalker from rural Victoria who police had to remove who said he had made a bedroom for me at his farm and he was going to lock me in there and in time I would grow to love him.”
Wilson says she chose to speak publicly about these experiences at the AO event in the hope of inspiring other women and girls to speak up and find their own voice.
