Hugh Sheridan is mourning the loss of his father and swing singer Denis, who died from cancer aged 76 in Adelaide on Monday.
The former Packed to the Rafters star shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram alongside a funeral poem by poet Wystan Hugh Auden titled “Stop all the clocks” and wrote “be free papa”.
The father-son duo shared a close bond and performed together for the last time two months ago at Adelaide Fringe Festival which the four-time Logie award-winning actor described as “the most special performances I’ve been a part of”.
“On a more personal note, I have to say the two separate Adelaide Fringe shows I did with my father @denissheridanmusic will remain in my mind as two of the most special performances I’ve been a part of,” Sheridan wrote at the time.
“I thank everyone who came to our completely sold out shows and thank YOU dad for always leading the way when it came to music taste and entertainment.”Sheridan’s celebrity friends including Rebel Wilson and his former Packed To The Rafters co-star Rebecca Gibney offered condolences.
“Thinking of you and your family,” Wilson wrote alongside heart emojis.
“All my love darling now and always,” Gibney wrote.
“Oh my darling heart - I loved your daddy - I’m so very sad for you my darling friend - I know how much you adored him and how proud he was of you,” entertainer Rhonda Burchmore wrote.
