Footy star Harry Himmelberg and his fiancee Taylia Sarris have opened up on the past year of joy and heartbreak in their journey to parenthood.

The couple, who have been together for five years, wanted to start a family after their engagement last October.

Sarris, a stylist and content creator, revealed she’d suffered two miscarriages before falling pregnant with her daughter, who is due around Christmas Day.

“I had two miscarriages prior, one like the month before I fell pregnant with our little girl now and our problem was definitely not getting pregnant, just trying to hold on to it,’’ she said.

“It is pretty scary, the whole process, until she’s born and we get to hold her I don’t think that anxiety will go away because you never know what can happen.”

GWS Giants defender Himmelberg said miscarriage wasn’t spoken about often enough.

“There is a stigma about it and the doctors said it’s quite common and were really positive, which eased our mind as well,’’ he said.

“That was hard because you think this isn’t normal or you panic. There are people much worse off than us and to fall pregnant is a blessing.

“It certainly puts things into perspective. Football can be a little bit all-consuming at times and it drags your friends and family into it because they ride the emotions too.

“That’s what I’m looking forward to most next season, the fact I’ll be able to come home to my girls after a game and realise the world’s not ending as can sometimes feel like if you lose finals and big games.”

Sarris is 27 weeks, with the couple revealing they will marry in October in Melbourne.

“We’re just going to go down to the courthouse and elope essentially and then we’ll do a celebration with our friends and family and our daughter next year when everything is settled,’’ she said.
