Grant Denyer can’t believe his luck. In the space of a week he has been nominated for a Gold Logie and told that he will be hosting the Aussie version of Ellen’s Game of Games.
Channel 10 confirmed today that it has picked Denyer to front the stadium spectacular created by Ellen DeGeneres.
The announcement comes three weeks after Ten decided to axe the Denyer-hosted Family Feud.
“Ellen is an idol of mine, so to land this opportunity makes me so excited I’m dizzy,” Denyer said.
“Game of Games is a smash hit in America. It is wildly funny and something completely brand new and different for Australia.
“I’m so glad this came along at the same time brought me the news that they were going to rest Family Feud. It is perfect timing.”
Game of Games is based around super-sized versions of games seen on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
DeGeneres has already indicated that she will be taking a keen interest in Ten’s show which is the first international version of Game of Games.
“I know that Ellen is massively supportive of our show,” he said.
“I think if she phoned me it would make my life. I’m already rehearsing in my head what I’d say if she calls.”
Ten is building the biggest set in its history to accommodate games including Master Blaster which sees contestants blasted into the air on bungee cords.
Know or Go sees contestants on 10 metre platforms with a wrong answer sending them falling through a chute. Contestants are picked straight from the audience.
“It was an instant yes from me,” Denyer said.
“I like making silly television — sometimes the more stupid the better. If it has got Ellen’s stamp on it that is as close as you’ll get to a sure thing.”
Game of Games is part of a suite of light entertainment shows that Ten is set to roll out in coming months. The network is also putting together an Aussie version of British quiz show Pointless.
“Grant is the perfect person to lead Game of Games, a show that is packed full of big fun, big physical entertainment, big laughs and big cash prizes,” Ten program chief Beverley McGarvey said.
