Former Miss Universe Australia Olivia Rogers has opened up about her battle with an eating disorder, revealing stark pictures of herself as a teenager.
Rogers said she endured a six year fight with an eating disorder, body image issues and had a terrible relationship with food and exercise.
“These photos were taken when I was deep in the grip of my eating disorder,’’ she wrote on Instagram.
“Looking at them was triggering for me for a long time. I don’t have many photos from that period, I deleted most of them because they were painful to look at.
“These photos were taken about 8 or 9 years ago when I was 19. Over a few months, I had restricted my diet so significantly, to the point where I was starving myself and over exercising.
“All the while I was consistently told by my modeling agencies that I ‘was doing really well and should be so proud of myself’.”
Rogers, who is a picture of health now and works as a speech pathologist, said she still
experiences mixed emotions but mainly feels positive.
The model, influencer and artist wanted to speak out ahead of World Mental Health Day on October 10.
“I know it can be really confronting and scary to talk about personal experiences with mental health, but maybe this weekend you could try to open up to someone that you haven’t before,’’ she wrote.
“I personally find it really freeing, the more I share my experience the easier it becomes. I encourage you to do the same — speak up & shake off the stigma.”
Rogers is getting married to fiance Justin Mckeone next year.
