Footy mates still send Fev hateful texts for ruining the Brownlow
It’s been 10 years since “the Fev incident” which saw Brendan Fevola evicted from the Brownlow for his drunken antics. And he says he still gets hateful texts from his footy mates blaming him for the lack of beer.

Brendan Fevola says footballers still send him hateful texts for ruining the Brownlow Medal.
The AFL legend shot to infamy after a drunken night at the 2009 ceremony, made worse by the fact he did a live cross as a roving reporter for The Footy Show.
“I have a 10 year anniversary coming up. It was Brownlow night. It was the greatest moment of all time,” Fevola said on his FOX FM breakfast radio show.
Fevola acknowledged his escapades sparked immediate change at the event, explaining: “For the past 9 years, they have not been able to serve alcohol at the rapid rate they used to. They always had beers on the table … and everyone would be carrying on.”
He cited former Collingwood champion Dane Swan, who said on a recent podcast: “Fev f----d the Brownlow. Before the Fev incident, there were beers on the table. Beer and wine. After Fev, there’s no alcohol on the tables. Thanks Fev.”
STRONG LANGUAGE WARNING:
Since the incident, Fevola says he’s enjoyed watching the Brownlow Medal with all the home comforts, including drinks.
But that’s also when the hateful text messages pour in.
“Every Brownlow, I’ll be sitting on the couch, and I’ll have a beer or red wine in my hand. And I’ll get messages from the boys saying, ‘You p---k! There’s no beer!’
“They hate me,” Fevola said, laughing. “I’ll (text) them a pic back (with a beer in hand), like ‘I’m fine.’”

But Fevola rejected claims he ruined Virgin’s AFL Grand Final party, which has been quietly dumped this year due to cost cutting.
“I’m not sure how I’ve been linked into that,” Fevola said, before opening up the feedback lines to callers with the very leading question: “What have you ruined?!”
