Hughesy, aka Dave Hughes, looks to be in the box seat to take over the Triple M Melbourne breakfast shift next year after his Sydney radio show was axed on Wednesday.
Hughes, Ed Kavalee and Erin Molan announced the end of their Hughesy, Erin and Ed breakfast show on Sydney’s 2Day FM after three and a half years.
“We’ve loved our time together on 2DayFM Breakfast, however, due to some of our families living in different cities we are unable to commit to 2025,” they said in a joint statement.
Hughes lives in Melbourne as does Kavalee.
Now free of his 2DayFM commitments Hughes looks like the front runner to parachute into the Triple M breakfast shift next year with rumours running hot that he and Kate Langbroek are being courted to join forces once again for the gig.
Hughes and Langbroek enjoyed great success as a radio team at Nova, KIIS and on the Hit Network.
The Triple M Melbourne breakfast shift is up for grabs in 2025 owing to Marty Sheargold quitting the position in July and moving to an afternoon slot on the network.
Triple M breakfast is being hosted by Wil Anderson, Rosie Walton and Daisy Thomas until October 4.
SCA Chief Content Officer, Dave Cameron, said on Wednesday that no decision had been made at this stage about the line-up for the Triple M Melbourne breakfast shift.
“Marty made a decision on his brekky show so we are in the pursuit of what’s next, but at the moment the current show with Daisy, Wil and Rosie is doing really well, just through until the end of footy season,” Cameron said.
“It is highly focused on AFL, as it should be.
“We have not made a decision on what 2025 looks like in regards to Triple M Melbourne at this stage.”
