The breakfast ratings dominance of 3AW has continued in the first radio ratings survey released since April.

Ross Stevenson and new co-host Russel Howcroft gained 8.8 per cent to record a whopping 26.1 share, while on the FM dial, only Triple M’s Hot Breakfast with Eddie McGuire and Luke Darcy made gains.

Howcroft replaced John Burns who signed off on July 31 after almost 20 years. It shows an increase in listeners wanting news and information.

Hot Breakfast recorded 6.7, behind GOLD FM’s Christian O’Connell on 7.2, who was still on top despite dropping 2.2.

The biggest falls were recorded by Nova’s Chrissie, Sam and Browny — down 3.2 to 4.6; and Fifi, Fev and Byron on FOX FM who dropped from 7.8 to 4.8.

ABC breakfast rose to 14.9. Across the board SEN remained steady with the biggest gain in the evening while many listeners were at home.

In breakfast it was 2.6, the same as the previous survey, while Gerard Whateley in the morning rose only slightly.

Fifi, Fev and Byron took a ratings dive.

In the hotly contested FM drive slot, Triple M’s Mick Molloy and Jane Kennedy lifted 1.8 to 7.5, which was just ahead of FOX FM on 7.4. GOLD FM was in front on 8.3.

3AW and ABC dominate the drive audience share.

This is the first ratings data in Melbourne that has been obtained solely from e-diaries, with paper diaries playing no role due to COVID-19 restrictions and the associated lockdowns.

Effectively it is a reset of the survey, given surveys 3, 4 and 5 were paused.

Normally GFK release eight surveys a year, and this time resumed data collection on July 26.

It’s worth noting many teams in Melbourne have been forced to work from home, and there have also been significant increases in streaming and downloading of radio apps.
